Successful Launch of 2021 White Paper on the Safe Use of Chargers for Electric Bicycles at Bafang’s Headquarters in Suzhou
Industry leaders gather for publication of white paper aimed at improving standards and safety.

On April 7, 2021, the publication of the 2021 White Paper on the Safe Use of Chargers for Electric Bicycles, led by the China Bicycle Association, was made official at Bafang Electric’s headquarters in Suzhou, China. Representatives from the China Bicycle Association, Bafang Electric, Beijing Niu Technology, Phylion Battery, Shenzhen Modiary, FSP-Powerland Technology, Wuxi Test, and more than 10 media from the bicycle industry, jointly witnessed the launch ceremony for the formulation of the 2021 White Paper on the Safe Use of Chargers for Electric Bicycles.
Collated by the China Bicycle Association, and drafted by Bafang Electric, Beijing Niu Technology, and other enterprises, the 2021 White Paper on the Safe Use of Chargers for Electric Bicycles expounds the precautions for the whole life cycle of chargers in design, manufacture, use, and after-sales service, from aspects including the characteristics of chargers, ways in which charging goes wrong, safety precautions and control mechanisms, industry standards, and terminal matching, so as to guide the secure and standardized development of the eBike industry.
Guo Wenyu, Secretary-General of the China Bicycle Association, expressed at the ceremony that China reports annual eBike sales exceeding 30 million units, with the number in social ownership reaching nearly 300 million. Currently, eBikes’ storage batteries are mainly lead-acid, and lithium-ion, which need to be charged via charging devices. With the implementation of new national standards, more and more enterprises choose lithium-ion storage batteries as an auxiliary energy source for eBikes.

However, there are still widespread issues across the industry, including a lack of knowledge about the safe use of chargers. In the process of use, consumers are frequently carrying out non-compliant behaviors, such as charging for too long, utilizing poor-quality chargers, improper wiring, and non-standard power consumption. These behaviors have led to ever-increasing accidents in the charging process of lithium batteries. As such, it is highly necessary to further standardize and popularize the design and production of chargers, and the matching of batteries in the industry.
On occasion, safety accidents arising from improper battery charging have occurred, thus constraining the sound development of the eBike industry. As a key formulator of the 2021 White Paper on the Safe Use of Chargers for Electric Bicycles, Bafang Electric hopes to play a leading role in the standardized development of the eBike industry via this action, and provide further security for users’ daily riding.
