Two Inverness fitness professionals have teamed up to launch the Highlands’ first dedicated cycling studio.

Road biking pals Drew Milne and Scott Murray dreamed up the concept of a membership-free, pay-as-you-go enterprise in the heart of the city centre as an antidote to expensive gym memberships and joining fees.

Situated on the lower floor of the city’s Eastgate Shopping Centre, Inverness Cycling Studio is believed to be the only state-of-the-art, boutique-style outlet of its kind north of Glasgow.

Doors opened for the first time on Monday, with classes from 30-minute one-to-ones to 90-minute “ultimate cycles” to be run seven days a week, throughout the day.

Mr Milne, a self-employed personal trainer for 16 years, has two decades’ experience in the local fitness industry, teaching a wide variety of fitness classes but with his own niche and expertise in indoor cycling.

Mr Murray graduated from the University of the Highlands and Islands to work at a high level in public and private sector enterprises and recently qualified in indoor cycling and fitness through Edinburgh University studies.

The pair have trained and competed together in road cycling events including the Marmotte and Mallorca 312, Etape Loch Ness, Caledonia Etape, King of the Mountain, Bealach na Bà, and Ride London.

Mr Milne said: “We felt we could either go down the route of a warehouse-type room, packed with 100 bikes, or go for an attractive boutique-style studio, something new and exciting for the Highlands.

“There are no other stand-alone cycling studios north of Glasgow, to our knowledge, and the pay-as-you-go concept also makes it pretty unique. Being in the city centre with so many living and working nearby, we hope to attract a new clientèle.”

The venture’s website is now open for bookings.
