Dayton-area company releases first electric bike
Batch Bicycles, a bike manufacturer owned by Miami Township-based Huffy Corp., has launched a new product that is the first of its kind for the company.
The E-Commuter Bicycle, a pedal-assisted model powered by a Bosch mid-drive motor, is designed for recreational riders who “want the extra boost without the hefty price tag,” according to a release from the company. It is priced at $1,999.99, which Batch says is the most competitively priced Bosch mid-drive e-bike on the market.
“E-Bikes are making it easier for more people, at every skill level, to get into riding — to ride farther and faster — and we’re excited to have an option to offer to our customers,” Batch Bicycles General Manager Chris Keller said. “Whether it be commuting or casual cruising, with the new Batch E-Commuter Bicycle, riders now have a functional and quality e-bike at an affordable price point.”
The e-bike features a Bosch Active Line Gen 3 motor, and a 6061 Alloy frame with internal cable routing and hydraulic disc brakes. It will assist up to 20 miles per hour, and averages approximately 55 miles between charges.
E-Commuter is available in three sizes — small (15 inches), medium (17.5 inches) and large (20 inches) — and has 27.5-inch wheels. In addition, the e-bike is available in matte metallic charcoal and includes a rear rack and fenders.
The new product is available for retailer and distributor pre-order, and will be available for sale to consumers on www.batchbicycles.com in mid-September.
In addition to the new E-Commuter, Batch offers a full line of other products. These include comfort bikes, commuter models, beach cruisers, mountain bikes and bikes for kids —including those with licensed designs — and a balance bike for children working toward their first ride. All orders, including online consumer orders, are shipped to an authorized dealer location for assembly.
Huffy Corp. launched Batch Bicycles in April 2018 as part of its ongoing strategy to partner with independent bike dealers. It is an original product line sold through independent dealers throughout the U.S.
Founded in Dayton in 1892, Huffy has more than 100 employees in the Miami Valley, around 200 employees at its four U.S. office locations, and thousands of indirect workers at international factories. The company is headquartered at 8877 Gander Creek Drive in Miami Township.
