We like a good entrance. And with over 10,000 reservations for our never-before-seen hyperbike, the VanMoof V, it’s safe to say we’ve made quite an impression. We’re ready to redefine the high-speed e-bike category with this entirely new e-bike – but how do we expect it to turn the tables on what has for so long been an unexciting form of e-mobility?
With the VanMoof V currently in the engineering stage and first deliveries expected by the end of 2022, our R&D team has an electrifying engineering challenge ahead of them this year. And while we can’t give all our plans away, we couldn’t let the surge in demand for the V – with the number of invite-only reservations far surpassing the total number of speed pedelecs sold in the Netherlands throughout the whole of 2021 – pass us by without a celebration. So, here’s a taste for some of the all-new electrical components you can expect from our latest innovation.

Engineering super smart high-speed rides: Our all-new technology platform
The VanMoof V’s set to be kitted out with an entirely new tech platform layout. That’s right – that means new chipsets, revamped sensors, and an upgraded operating system. The introduction of the new technology platform will mean the V will be able to host a whole range of new features. For instance, with stacks more power comes the need for greater control: a key riding feature that the V’s sensors will be able to provide.
“Our new electronics platform will influence the bike’s system stability, and allow us to reach an unprecedented reliability rate – the likes of which the e-bike industry has never seen before,” Co-founder Ties Carlier explains: “Our city e-bikes, the VanMoof S3 & X3, feature over-the-air updates for all electronic components. And we’ll take this to the next level with the VanMoof V.” What does that mean for our riders? Well, we’ll be able to roll out new software updates more frequently, add extra features, and boost system improvements more smoothly than ever.
Commutes will be made even easier with an integrated phone mount
Ready to supercharge your commute with a super handy accessory? The V will have an integrated phone mount which will mean that your phone can be incorporated as a screen and dashboard, becoming an intuitive visual reference for updates from the V’s onboard computer. Not only will your smartphone mount give you access to the basic information such as city mapping, but it will also mean that we can add even more exciting features to the VanMoof app that come in extra handy for long-distance rides. A two-year engineering project pays off: Meet our updated drivetrain
For those of you who know us at VanMoof, we like to do things ourselves so we can get each part and component perfect for our riders. We’ve designed our drivetrain completely in-house since 2013. And we never stop looking for ways to improve our own designs. For the last two years, our Engineering team has been on a mission to create a drivetrain that is maintenance-free – an achievement that would significantly improve our electric bikes and the overall VanMoof experience for our riders.
We’re proud to announce that the V will support the outcome of this engineering venture. The updated drivetrain (chain cover and tensioner) will be more robust, keeping your high-speed e-bike out of the workshop and on the roads. It will be light-weight, fully covered, and incredibly powerful.
